I didn't get to watch or listen to any of the NHL games last night because of the CFP Championship, but what a night it was for hockey. The Bruins went bonkers on the Capitals, scoring 7 goals last night. The Colorado Avalanche came into their game with the Kraken at massive -380 favorites, and almost lost. They found themselves down by 2 goals 14:20 minutes in the 2nd period, but rallied back to win the contest 4-3. I've got school again, so this one is going to be a short write-up. Sorry about that. Anyway, the NHL needs some love after all the crazy football games that have been going on, so let's get started.
The Bruins came into their match in Washington at a miniscule underdog, coming in at -105 odds. The game was expected to be competitive and close, and it was, in the 1st period. Washington took a 2-0 lead swiftly, taking the advantage just 12:32 minutes into the game thanks to LW Conor Sheary. Boston responded, with goals by RW David Pastrnak and LW Brad Marchand tying the game. Boston then scored 4 times unanswered, making the score 6-2. The Bruins spread the wealth nicely, as each goal was scored by a different skater. Marchand tacked on the Bruins' 7th goal with a wrist shot halfway into the 3rd period. The final score was an absolute blowout, 7-3 in Boston's favor. The Bruins are playing great hockey right now, earning their 6th win in their past 7 games. Pastrnak and Marchand both finished the game with 2 goals and 1 assist a piece. Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk led the team in assists with 4. Goaltender Linus Ullmark got the job done for Boston, stopping 27/30 shots on a 90% save percentage. Here's your fun fact of the day, the chance of this exact score happening last night between the Bruins and Capitals was 0.0209%. Now, onto the Avalanche. They owned -380 odds in their contest against the Kraken last night, good for an implied probability of 79.2%. That's huge, and the line says they should've had no trouble handling a struggling Seattle team. Yet somehow, they faced a 2-goal deficit in the 2nd period, and it appeared like all the Kraken bettors were about to have a nice payday. Don't count Colorado out though. The Avalanche skaters scored 3 unanswered to win the game by a score of 4-3. Center Nazem Kadri capped the rally with the go-ahead goal 5:43 minutes remaining in the game. Nicolas Aube-Kubel led Colorado in the scoring department. The Right Wing had 2 goals on the night. G Pavel Francouz stopped enough shots for the Avs to eek out the comeback victory, stopping 23/26 pucks headed to the posts.
